Ride Into The Sun è un album di canzoni del compianto cantautore e chitarrista Elliott Smith. Tra i musicisti presenti figurano il cantante/chitarrista Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear); il cantante/mandolinista Chris Thile (Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek); i bassisti Felix Moseholm (Brad Mehldau Trio, Samara Joy) e John Davis (che ha anche curato la progettazione e il mixaggio dell'album); il batterista Matt Chamberlain (Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Randy Newman); e un'orchestra da camera guidata da Dan Coleman, che ha anche diretto l'album Highway Rider di Mehldau del 2010. I 10 brani di Elliott Smith presenti nell'album sono completati da quattro composizioni di Mehldau che, a suo dire, "ispirate e riflettono l'opera di Smith". Sono incluse anche le interpretazioni di "Thirteen" dei Big Star, di cui Smith è stato anche lui interprete, e di "Sunday" di Nick Drake, che Mehldau afferma: "Considero in un certo senso il padrino visionario di Smith".
