L'album “Moanin'” del 1958 è considerato uno dei migliori album di Art Blakey e i Jazz Messengers. Esso rappresenta il primo album della terza formazione del gruppo che all’epoca vedeva Blakey accompagnato dal trombettista Lee Morgan, dal sassofonista tenore Benny Golson, dal pianista Bobby Timmons e dal bassista Jymie Merritt.
