The Mountain è stato registrato in varie località in tutto il mondo — dallo Studio 13 di Londra e Devon, a Mumbai, Nuova Delhi, Rajasthan e Varanasi in India, oltre che ad Ashgabat, Damasco, Los Angeles, Miami e New York — e presenta performance in cinque lingue: inglese, arabo, hindi, spagnolo e yoruba.

Nei 15 brani potrete ascoltare i contributi di IDLES, Kara Jackson, Yasiin Bey, Johnny Marr, Black Thought, Anoushka Shankar e Omar Souleyman. Ci sono anche apparizioni postume di leggende come Bobby Womack, Dave "Trugoy the Dove" Jolicoeur, Dennis Hopper, Mark E. Smith, Proof e Tony Allen.
